Members of the House of Representatives from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday condemned former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s letter to President Muhammadu Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019.
While Hon. Kingsley Chinda said that Obasanjo lacked the moral latitude to play the role of a champion and a god to Nigerians, Hon. Sergius Ose Ogun asked the ex-leader to leave Nigerians alone to settle their differences.
Even though he agreed with Obasanjo that Buhari should go and rest, Chinda said that such position should not come from Obasanjo as he had the opportunity to put the nation on the right part, but failed.
Ogun noted military Generals are the problem of the country, including General Ibrahim Babangida and even President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said that Obasanjo had a hand in the emergence of Buhari, adding, “Obasanjo should just leave us alone, we are not imbeciles in this country. He’s not the most intelligent person to come out of this country. He should continue his rest in Otta.”
The Chief Whip and Leader of the North West Caucus, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, said that the former President lacked the moral and political credibility to even speak on the nation’s political affairs.
He said: ” A man who was involved in all sort of corruption issues in his administration and indeed his unpopular bid to violate our respected Constitution by wanting to take a third term is not in any way a credible democratic voice to count on.”
Hon. Doguwa, however, told Nigerians to disregard the comments made by Obasanjo as baseless.
