Antoine Griezzman has announced he won’t be leaving Atletico Madrid this summer and Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has reacted to the decision.
Griezmann’s future has been the subject of intense links with different clubs over the past 2 years now.
Manchester United were close to signing him last summer but the France International opted to stay put when Atletico’s transfer ban was upheld.
Barcelona then emerged as favorites to sign him and they were confident of getting his signature this summer.
However, Griezzman revealed on Thursday night that he had decided to stay with Atletico Madrid Ahead of the 2018-19 Season.
“I have decided to stay,” said Griezmann, in a specially aired documentary on Spanish TV station Movistar+.
Gerard Pique was then quick to react to his Atletico Madrid decision and wrote on social media:
“Another way to see the footballer’s life and his doubts to make the most important decision of his career,” Pique wrote on Twitter .
“Thanks to the team @Kosmos_Studios and especially @AntoGriezmann for these last few weeks.
“You decided to stay in the @Atleti and I hope you go great this season!”
Pique also used the opportunity to defend the announcement with another tweet adding: “And remember one thing. There will be people who will criticise you, because everything new can generate rejection.
“But the most important reflection that leaves the #LaDecision is that sometimes, not everything you sell is true. Good night.”
Atletico Madrid have also agreed a fee with Monaco to sign Griezmann’s international teammate Thomas Lemar.
