ABIA STATE GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION: DR. ALEX OTTI FILES APPEAL
Indications have emerged that the widely acclaimed winner of the Abia State Governorship Election Dr. Alex Otti has filed his Notice of Appeal against the Judgment of the Abia State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal delivered on the 3rd day of November 2015. Even though Dr. Alex has up to 21 days within which to file his appeal, it appear that he has filed his Notice of Appeal as one of his Counsel, Nwala Chukwudi Oracle Esq., was earlier seen at the Tribunal Registry doing documentations today.
Shortly before he filed the Notice of Appeal, Nwala Oracle had told reporters at the Tribunal premises that his client, Dr. Alex Otti had consulted with relevant stakeholders and the people of Abia State that gave him massive votes and has decided to appeal the judgment. He opined that there are so many areas where the Learned Tribunal erred both in law and fact and consequently misdirected itself which eventually led to substantial miscarriage of justice.
He however stated that Dr. Alex Otti has implicit confidence in the ability of the Judiciary to assuage the yearning desire for justice by the people of Abia State. He further expressed hope that the appeal will be fruitful ‘we have impeccable Grounds of Appeal deriving from the cancelled results of Obingwa, Osisioma and Isiala Ngwa North, multiple signing of result sheets by one individual to the issues around card reader, computation of results, accreditation of voters, evaluation of evidence and so many others’
In a brief chat with the Director General of the Alex Otti Campaign Organization, Chief Tony Enwereuzor, at his residence in Ntigha, Isiala Ngwa North LGA of the state, he said that the entire people of Abia State received with rude and vulgar shock the strange and weird verdict by the Abia State Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal that dismissed the petition of Dr. Alex Otti and upheld Governor Ikpeazu’s victory at the April 11th 2015 polls. Coming at a time when the people of Abia reasonably believed that the wind of change blowing across Nigeria will provide kinetic energy for the Judiciary to restore their stolen mandate and wipe away the scars of the indignities of their slave masters. Expectedly, the Judgment elicited many negative and downbeat reactions from informed Nigerians, indicative that the public is fully aware of the absurdities contained in the Verdict. Already, concerns have been raised in some quarters about the danger that the verdict portends for our democracy and future elections.
