ReBuild Imo: Ihedioha and His Appointments
When His Excellency the Governor Elect, Emeka Ihedioha appointed Dr Vin Udokwu as the DG of the Ihedioha Campaign Organization, it was indeed greeted with commendations from every sector of the State. The fact that the appointment of Dr Udokwu, a seasoned administrator, refined medical Doctor and a former Chief of State under the administration of Chief Achike Udenwa, attracted a lot of goodwill to the campaign organization can not be over emphasized.
Dr Udokwu amongst other things represents a disciplined and orderly society where due process reigns supreme. During his era as a Chief of Staff, administrative works became attractive and the entire system functioned effectively. Working in the ministries or Teaching and other civil service jobs were hungered for because of how dignified they were at that time. The manner in which Dr Udokwu masterfully navigated the ship of the Ihedioha Campaign Organization will remain a reference point and research material for good students of politics.
Another great appointment from the Governor Elect was the appointment of Barr. Kissinger Ikeokwu, a public affairs and opinion analyst, a vibrant legal luminary who strived to carve a niche for himself both in the politics of Imo State and in any public discuss. With an eagle eye, Ihedioha captured Barr. Ikeokwu and made him the Campaign Spokesperson of the ICO. Barr. Ikeokwu on the other hand took the responsibility very seriously and discharged his duties without creating enemies for the Campaign Organization. It is on record that Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha ran the most issue based campaigns across the State, where even the incumbent administration was not even talked about. The appointment of the Isiala Mbano legal luminary remained of great value to the struggle leading toady.
Another landmark decision made by Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, CON, was the decision to nominate Hon. Engr. Gerald Irona, as his Deputy Governorship candidate of the PDP after due consultations with the Stakeholders. Gerald Irona, from Oguta Local Government, represents the agitated spirit of the Oil rich kingdom and most importantly, He possesses the courage, experience, humility and strength to occupy the number two office in the land.
The decision was also a master stroke on other candidates who were working so hard to meet up with the quality and human ingredients which the Ihedioha/Irona ticket represent. Irona’s political trajectory of rising from a councillor to a Local Government Chairman to a House of Assembly member and later a House of Representatives member, showcased his hidden political potentials and experience to the generality of Ndi Imo. It was obvious at the end of party nominations that there was no other political party having the capacity which Ihedioha/Irona ticket had at that time. While others were doing trial and error, Ihedioha and Irona stood “Gidigba m” all along.
On the recently constituted TTC, I have never negotiated doubt on the capacities which the members of the various committees control. However, one of the greatest tasks the incoming administration must do is a holistic reorientation through several campaigns, seminars and workshop for its citizens. The fact that Imo has been under the administration of Rochas Okorocha, the founder of Iberiberism must not be taken for granted. Due process, good governance and rule of law would continue be novel to a lot of people especially to those who have been affected badly by Rochanomics.
The need for continuous reorientation has become necessary therefore. Believe me, most of the people who are talking about the TTC list have not carefully looked at it. A list made up of former ministers, Rtd Chief Judge, Captains of industry, Security Chiefs, Academics, Clergy, Health practitioners, Leadership experts, Former Ambassadors, Engineers, Lawyers, etc, can not be reduced to a beer palour discussion. We must refuse any attempt to drag us into continuous analysis on a well thought out idea. For me, it’s just a matter of days, the good works of the committee will begin to speak for them.
Also what the agitation should be is good governance and not mundane issues . Good governance has no age, gender, complexion or size. When it comes, it spreads to everywhere. Our people must therefore learn to agitate for good governance more than self recognition. The TTC list has nothing to do with the Akara woman at Orie Amaraku but will only affect Her if good governance is implemented. Individual quest for positions must not in any way be allowed to counter overshadow governance which stands for everybody.
We must also applaud that in the list of over 139 prominent Imo Sons and Daughters, none is associated with fraud related matters or facing any criminal charges in court. These men and women are silent achievers who have in no small measure invested in human capital development. They should be encouraged to do the very difficult but achievable assignment which they have been given. Imo has moved on, let the Liberation begin.
