The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, to maintain his stand as one of the pillars of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and remain in the party.
Through its Publicity Secretary, Mrs Kate Offor, the APC said that it is in a position to overrun the PDP in the 2019 general elections in Enugu without Sen Ekweremadu.
There have been insinuations in various quarters that Ekweremadu is under pressure to join the APC. In fact, an APC Senator from Zamfara State, Kabiru Marafa, has called on Ekweremadu to defect from PDP to APC if he still wants to retain his seat as Deputy Senate President.
Offor said that the APC in Enugu does not want Ekweremadu in its fold and boasted that the party will win all the elections in 2019 without Ekweremadu.
She said: “Whatever is the position of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we want him to remain in PDP. We wish to make it very clear that Ekweremadu is an unwanted guest in Enugu State APC.
“Let him stay and salvage the inferno festering in the PDP. We don’t want one party state. Most importantly we don’t want him to infest and transfer confusion into APC, his trademark in the PDP from the time of Governor Chimaroke Nnamani in 1999 till date,” she said.
