Royal Vendetta: Emir of Kano Strips Lamido Bayero off Ciroman Kano Title

The very controversial  Emir of Kano, Emir Muhammadu Sunusi II is in the news again. The Emir has stripped the eldest son of the late Emir Ado Bayero, Lamido Bayero, of his traditional title of and District Head of Gwale.

According to information gathered, The new Emir wrote to Lamido Bayero, seeking him to return to his duty as Ciroman Kano and District Head of Gwale, For unexplained reasons, Mr. Bayero’s refused to either reply the letter or report to the palace, an action which angered the emir.

The issue was taken to the back-burner when former President Goodluck Jonathan with foresight, appointed Mr. Lamido Bayero as the Managing  Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA.  A few weeks after the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari, The President, for reasons best known to him relieved Mr. Lamido Bayero of his duty as managing director of the NPA. Seeking to add salt to injury, The emir directed the Emirate Council to write to Mr. Bayero again. Again, Mr. Lamido Bayero refused to reply the letter or appear in person to explain his reasons.

“His Highness, Muhammadu Sunusi first reasoned that the local government of Gwale was too important to be left vacant, and so he elevated the son of Emir Inuwa to be the district head”.

“And now the title of Ciroma is also stripped,” a palace source said.

To douse tension created by the saga, The emir then appointed Mr. Bayero’s younger brother, Nasiru Bayero, to replace him as the new Ciroman Kano.

A statement by Galadiman Kano, Abbas Sunusi, said the removal and the subsequent replacement was with immediate effect.
Mr. Lamido Bayero was the heir apparent of the Kano Emirship position but lost to Emir Muhammadu Sunusi II in bizarre circumstances.
