The Senate have called for the resignation and prosecution of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, David Babachir Lawal.
This, the Senate says is in connection with his role in the plight of Internally Displaced Persons in the North-East.
In a move spearheaded by Dino Melaye, the Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, he called for the resignation of the SGF on the basis of him taking undue advantage to have contracts inflated and awarded to his company, to aid the plight of IDPs in North-East Nigeria.
Earlier in the day, Senator Shehu Sani who chaired the Senate Adhoc Committee on Mounting Humanitarian Crises in the North-East had laid the foundation for the Senate’s call for Lawal’s resignation and prosecution.
The report indicted the Presidential Initiative for the North-East for the award of over-inflated contracts and for contravening provisions of the Public Procurement Act.
In urging, that the report be considered, Sani praised the work of non-governmental organizations such as UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders and Dangote Group.
He also noted that the presence of the Ministry of Health has not been felt in the region.
