South East Alone Can Generate 3,000mw – APC South East

by on March 23, 2016
The Spokesman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the South East Zone, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, has expressed optimism that the target of generating 10,000 Mega Watts of electricity in the country for the next three years is attainable, noting that the South East Zone alone can generate up to 3000mw.
President Muhammadu Buhari had set the target during the National Economic Council’s Retreat, held on Monday at Abuja.
Okechukwu in a press statement made available to newsmen yesterday said with the federal, state and local support, barring bureaucratic bottle neck, the South East Zone of the country alone, can generate 3,000mw within the three years stipulated timeline set by the President.
According to him, research findings proved that Enugu Coal deposits can generate 1,000mw, the Ugwoba Gas about 500mw, Oguta Gas about 500mw and Ukwa Gas Axis about 1,000mw of electricity.
He appealed to the President not to fall into the pitfalls of the previous regimes; that adopted the nebulous policy that government has no business investing in the power sector, hence abandoned the critical sector to private investors.
