Arsenal’s hopes of signing Victor Wanyama this summer hang in the balance as contract talks between the player and Southampton get underway, according to reports.
The Gunners are keen on Kenya international Wanyama and reportedly tried to sign him last summer.
The 24-year-old is said to be worth around £20million with his current contract expiring in 2017.
Arsenal are willing to wait until the end of the season to get their man, having signed defensive midfielder Mohamed Elneny from Basel last week.
But the reports claim Wanyama’s proposed switch to the Emirates Stadium has been cast into doubt as Saints battle hard to keep him.
It is claimed Southampton officials have begun discussions with Wanyama’s representatives over a new contract.
