Steven Gerrard Agrees To Become Next Rangers Manager

by on April 29, 2018

Steven Gerrard has said yes to Rangers and will become their new manager, according to reports.
The former Liverpool captain has been the odds on favorite to take the job since Tuesday and late on Saturday, April 28, 2018, night, the Daily Mirror reported that Gerrard has agreed to take the job.

Gerrard’s former Liverpool team-mate Gary McAllister is expected to join as assistant manager at the Glasgow club.

Speculation began on Monday as Gerrard’s odds plummeted and the 37-year-old then shot to favourite when Ibrox chairman Dave King was spotted sitting near Anfield legends Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush at Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final first-leg win over Roma.

Gerrard is currently the Liverpool U18 coach but will leave the club with the full support of Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, who said on Friday that if he was the owner of a club, he would be looking at Gerrard as a potential manager.

Graeme Murty is in caretaker charge until the end of the season at Ibrox and on Friday, was in defiant mood, reiterating his desire to land the job on a permanent basis.

“I love the role and will do everything I possibly can to keep it,” he said.

“The club knows I want this job. I’m massively honoured to be here. This is a stellar job. In my first appointment as a manager I could not have dreamt of anything like this.

If I win the next four games, you never know. Why not?

“Go win the next four games, finish in Europe, finish high up and then I think I’ll have fulfilled the remit given when I first came in to the letter.

“I doubt quite honestly if there is anyone else who could have done it as good as I have for a first job.”

Gerrard took charge of Liverpool’s Under 18s a year ago after reportedly turning down the chance to manage MK Dons. His side sit second in the U18 Premier League table, behind only Manchester United in the table.

He also managed the Liverpool U19 team who reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Youth League, ousting United before losing to Manchester City.
