Honorable Chidi Okechukwu Duru a custodian of the Duru dynasty of Nkpologwu Community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, is a law graduate of the Bendel State University (now Ambrose Ali University), Ekpoma, Edo State – Nigeria. He was called to the Bar in 1989 and has attended several management courses including the Chief Executive Program at the Lagos Business School, Competitive strategy and value creation at the University of Navarra, Barcelona, Spain, Privatization, Regulatory Reform, Corporate Governance and Management of Political economic reforms at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard.
He was elected into the Federal House of Representatives, Nigeria in 1999 – 2007 and played a key role in establishing the Pension Reform Act, 2004. He served in various capacities, as the Chairman of House Special Committee on Pension Reform Bill, Public Petitions, Privatization and Commercialization of public parastatals as well as the Committee on Housing and Urban Development. He was nominated by the British Government as one of 14 outstanding leaders in Africa and attended Africa Future Leadership Pilot Program in Manchester, UK.
Nze Duru Chairs several other companies such as Aptics Limited, Correspondence Limited and is a board member of several others. He is also a Principal partner in the law firm of Moka Mezue Okonkwo and Partners, Executive Vice Chairman, First Guaranty Pensions Limited.
He is currently saddled with the burden of an unfounded charge of armed robbery as a result of his bid to recover his company FGPL, a company which Justice Kolawole ruled should be handed over to him unconditionally, he has been detained for close to a week without any formal charge, he is currently been detained illegally by AIG Zone 2, against the wishes of the Attorney General of the Federation. Let all well-meaning Nigerians rise against this injustice.
Justice Okorowo gave a clear and direct judgement in favour of Honourable Chidi Duru with regards to ownership and management of First Guarantee Pensions Limited, this judgement was delivered on the July 18th, 2012 and another judgement was gotten in restraining law enforcement agencies from acting on any matter regarding FGPL, this judgement was delivered by Justice Kolawole in 2016.
Yet on 11th January, 2017. Honorable Nze Chidi Duru was detained without any charge till date.
On the 7th of September 2016 the same EFCC withdrew the case from court saying they have concluded their investigation and seen that he is not guilty as reported by PENCOM.
