There will be judgment on Chibok

Several reasons prompted me to continue with this particular piece. I have tried repeatedly to put it aside, but it has to be that one of them is the need to remind Nigerians that God still rules in the affairs of men and He will continue to dispense justice as He pleases and at the appointed time. Another reason being the recent commentaries and debates both online and offline in the public space, alleging a downturn in public advocacy to free the abducted Chibok girls, since May 29, 2015. Lately too, there was a recent reaction from a representative of the Chibok family alleging dubious moves being employed by some Nigerians to shortchange the Chibok parents.

In the midst of these public interrogations, about 600 Nigerians have been slaughtered by the rampaging vampires called Boko Haram in less than 40 days, since President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office. Also, the latest onslaught of these killers, striking deep into Kaduna State, going beyond the fringe of Borno State, where the Army had pushed it before May 29, is a reminiscence of the reactivation of its urban cells. It may just a matter of days before they hit the city of Abuja if nothing strategic is done. We have seen this pattern before and it is not strange to any discerning observer.

This is more of a clarion call on the military to step up its intelligence gathering system and nip any emergency in bud. As citizens too, we must not forget that security is the business of everybody. The president must also go beyond press statements and talking tough only on political matters. This is the time Nigerians want to see the wartime General in him by leading the attack against Boko haram from the front. It is totally unacceptable that the President is yet to be seen in the public talking tough against Boko haram. He once talked tough to APC over National Assembly leadership tussle.

I also don’t think he can negotiate from a position of strength against terrorists by being the first to issue a statement of a negotiation; rather you must first pound the enemies really hard to be able to negotiate from a vantage position of strength. Unfortunately, President Buhari is yet to launch his own major offensive or any strategic offensive against these blood-sucking demons as his campaign implied. For instance, what are his own military strategies to deal ruthlessly with Boko haram? He must also be told that a practical demonstration of strength will put his government in a pole position to search and free the Chibok girls.

Back to the Chibok issue; this is one saga that will remain a reference point in the history of Nigeria – hopefully it turns to good news in the end for us. It has moved the spirit of this nation and touched on its very foundation. It was a major issue that defined the 2015 general elections and Nigerians will never forget the Chibok moments in a hurry. However, lest we make a grave mistake, there will be judgment on Chibok. I am very certain about this and deeply convinced too. I am neither a prophet nor a pastor but as one who believes that God indeed rules in the affairs of men.

It doesn’t matter if you think the abduction of about 300 school girls in Chibok was a scam, contrived or real, it doesn’t even matter your personal opinion on this, but certainly there will be judgment on Chibok and Nigerians will appreciate God better for it. There is time for everything in life and the Chibok saga was allowed by God for a purpose. Yes, you can say I am sounding Godly – very well, but note that in the days ahead, there will be higher manifestations of His authority in Nigeria and the world at large, far beyond the comprehension of mortals.

Nigerians should not worry too much concerning the roles of individuals, groups and institutions on the Chibok matter – suspicious or unbecoming. Hear this: “I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work. Ecclesiastes 3:17”. I needed to quote this very important verse of the Holy Bible to reassure all that Chibok will not pass as a political scam or another contrived agenda. No. The truth will prevail and the whereabouts of the girls will be unraveled at the appointed time. When is the appointed time, as you may want to know? The appointed time is the fullness of time only known to God alone. Like I said, he allowed this episode for a reason.

Irrespective of the agenda or conspiracy behind the Chibok saga, GOD who rules in the affairs of men will have His way. But it is beyond me to understand the inner workings of God. I don’t think the angels do too. In my human reasoning, if the postulation of different kinds of Boko haram that was once muted is sustained, I will say that Chibok girls were abducted by Political Boko Haram and not the militant Boko Haram led by Shekau. However, it may be beyond such a simple logic even though certain fundamentals could sustain such insinuation. Before May 29, 2015, the military pounded everywhere but couldn’t find our Chibok girls. But take it or leave, everything about Chibok was planned and carefully executed. Time will tell.

It appears a good number of us have lost touch with the reality of God’s existence. Just like what is going on in our midst, so also was the history of nations of old was written in the books we read today. God is ever interested in Nigeria. You may need to read the confidential reports of several international bodies, missions and agencies about Nigeria ahead of the 2015 general elections. They were more about how to mitigate a given disaster that has been projected to follow the elections – and likely to lead to it disintegration. None gave Nigeria a single opportunity, or projected what eventually became the outcome of the polls – because God had a different plan and it prevailed.

Let me mention two scenarios in our national experience, so that we come to term with the reality of God’s capacity. Some Nigerians will remember when some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) out of sheer arrogance and pride, boasted to rule Nigeria for 60 years nonstop. They carried on with this orientation, but God was magnanimous to allow the party to spend 16 years in the saddle. PDP was a behemoth and indeed operated as if it was going to rule for 100 years. The rest is now history.

You will also recall how the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), now a product of merger in the All Progressives Congress (APC), celebrated the success of the plot against PDP to produce Aminu Tambuwal as the Speaker, House of Representatives in 2011. Some individuals, including myself, have erroneously described what transpired on June 9, 2015, in the National Assembly, as law of Karma, but it is not so. God allowed it for us to learn some lessons in our political journey. But don’t get it twisted, the issue surrounding the emergence of Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara as Senate President and Speaker respectively, is not over yet; you only need to watch carefully as more drama unfold.

It is therefore apt to tell ourselves the bitter truth against all these. What is hidden about Chibok, is definitely known to God the creator of all. “For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” Ecclesiastes 12:14. Judgment on Chibok is neither delayed nor denied, it is only reserved for the appropriate time. God cannot be mocked.
