Those Who Felt Igbos Carried Out ’66 Coup Started The Civil War – Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu

by on November 27, 2015

Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has faulted the notion in some quarters, that Igbos started the civil war, which broke out from 1967 to 1970.

He said rather, those who felt that the Igbos in the military carried out the 1966 coup started the war, and then went on a mindless killing of Igbos.
Speaking at an integrated economic summit organised by an Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Aka Ikenga, Iwuanyanwu stated that for the fact that Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Dr. Michael Okpara were not killed during the coup could not translate to an Igbo coup.

He said there was no ethnic group in Nigeria that believes in the oneness of the country more than the Igbos, saying: “Igbo believe in one united Nigeria more than any other tribe. While the Igbo have investments in all parts of the country, there is no single investment owned by a non-Igbo in Igboland.”

Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu- should have paused a while before making such comments,in that no sane person, who toils day and night to acquire his hard earned money would like to invest in an inviroment that is hostile, total lack of security of lives/property.Indeed,you cannot equate the level of peaceful co-existece Igbo race enjoy and carry out their business activities without fear of lost, intimidation from any quarters in the North and South West. For this, the Igbos feel more secured, comfortable, deem it favourable to invest in the North and South West other than their respective Igbo land-considering the rate of kidnappings, armed robbery, impunity at will,tribalism-the Igbos do not sale virgin land or landed properties to non-indigenes,even public market stores were never allocated to Nigrians from the remaining five geo political zones and would never be allocatd to non Igbo race.By virtue of your public status,I think, you need to weigh your public comments before you let them out of the bag, please !!
