by on October 7, 2016
Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole on Thursday intercepted and killed a male suicide bomber who attempted to detonate an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at a military point on the outskirts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The terrorist, who attempted to penetrate the troops’ location at Jidari Polo General Area, was said to have come in through Alidawari Village, about 4km to Jidari, strapped with heavy IEDs’ vest.
In a statement yesterday, Army Spokesman, Col Sani Usman, said that the troops on sighting the intruder laid in wait for him but he refused to stop despite several warnings and challenges.
He said that the combined team of Nigerian Army and Nigeria Police Explosive Ordinance Device (EOD) safely defused the IEDs laden vest on the suicide bomber after he was neutralised.
