The family members of late Pa Clifford Omosomwan, were still in shock following the death of their father, the Chief Priest (Ohen-Ogba) of Aruogba community in Oredo Local government Area of Edo State who was shot dead in his house by unknown gunmen.
The effect of the gunshot which killed Pa Omosomwan on March 3, 2016 was still clearly visible at No1, Omosomwan Street Aruogba quarters, new GRA in Benin City with community men and women living in fear over the incident.
Pa Omosomwan was said to have been shot through the window when he heard noise and decided to inquire what was happening. The bullet was said to have passed his chest out from the back, veered through the door and split at a tenant’s door injuring him in the process.
Pa Omosomwan, who is the eldest in the community, is the second elder who has so far been murdered. It was further learnt that the same gunmen had in January 2015 murdered one Pa Goodluck Uwumahongie in his residence after a land dispute ensued among the youths in the Community Development Association, CDA.
It was gathered that the CDA chairman at the time of this land dispute was said to have been beheaded and currently at the mortuary waiting to be buried even after the community offered N800, 000 to the family for burial.
Pa Omosomwan, a father of 10 whose great grandchildren are up to 50 was said to have gathered the community elders for an important meeting on the day he was murdered. The meeting was to discuss the recent happening in the community; little did he know that the next on the list of those to be murdered was him.
He was said to have bought drinks and prepared food during the meeting which ended at 5 pm where all the elders left for their various houses.
A list of those to be murdered suddenly surfaced when a particular CDA chairman was beheaded over a year ago with his head yet to be recovered from the assassins.
