The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus says the party is getting set for its eventual return to Aso Rock Villa in 2019.
Prince Secondus said that Nigerians would be happy with a new PDP that would emerge after the ongoing re-branding and re-positioning of the party and would gladly vote them back to power.
The National Chairman spoke when he received the forum of Speakers of PDP controlled state assemblies at his legacy house office in Maitama Abuja.
Prince Secondus briefed the Speakers on the activities of the new National Working Committee NWC since December when they got their mandate and assured that Nigerians would be happy with what is emerging as a new re-branded opposition party.
According to a statement issued in Abuja at the weekend by Secondus’ spokesman, Ike Abonyi, the National Chairman said, “what would come out of the re-engineering going on in our party would make it a formidable opposition ready and determined to regain power in 2019”
“We have been going round the country since we assumed office and we are glad to report that many Nigerians out there are anxiously waiting for the PDP to return to power.
Our visits to States reveal that only PDP governors are delivering in their campaign promises and their people are happy and supportive.
“In Abia, Delta and Bayelsa States where we visited recently, PDP governors are phenomenal in their performance, no wonder the people are trooping back to the party from the wobbling ruling APC”.
Prince Secondus told the speakers to note that their position is very critical to the mobilisation programmes of the party across the country because of their closeness to the grassroots.
“You must remain connected to your people because we are taking the party back to the real owners, the people at the grassroots where you are closer.”
The National Chairman told the speakers that the party is planning a deliberate policy that would take the party to the youths through a new programme called Generation Next that would soon be launched and wants the speakers to queue into it as most of them belong to that generation.
Earlier the Chairman of PDP State Speaker’s forum and the Speaker of Delta State House Assembly Hon Sheriff Oborevworio told the National Chairman that they came to congratulate and identify with the rebranding effort of the party.”
He said that the Speakers are ready at all time to assist the party in its efforts to regain power in 2019.
Other speakers in attendance are Hon Kola Oluwawole of Ekiti, Nwaruku Francis of Ebonyi, Ikuniyi- Olajide Ibani of Rivers, Chekwendu Kalu of Abia, Nasiru Abubakar Nono of Gombe, John Gaul Lebo of Cross River.
