Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has declared that his government will soon give some traditional rulers in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of the state an ultimatum to produce a ring leader of a militia group in the state Mr Terwase Agwaza popularly called “Ghana”.
Ortom made this declaration in a chat with newsmen over recent killings that took place in Zaki Biam, Ukum Local Government Area (LGA) of the state after he inspected the damage caused to property and victims of the attack in various hospitals in the area.
He said that Agwaza was still residing in his village Gbishe in Katsina-Ala LGA, saying he was aware that the traditional rulers in the area were shielding him. He reiterated that, all hands must be on deck in order to tackle the security challenges in the state, adding that security was not a one man affair.
The governor reechoed his administration’s resolve to take decisive actions against criminal elements in the state and regretted the situation where politicians were in the habit of giving arms to youths to help them prosecute elections, saying it is not in the best interest of the society.
He said it is now that insecurity was beginning to rear its ugly head in the state that people would start appreciating him for initiating the amnesty programme, assuring that he would direct relevant authorities to evaluate the damage the militia caused to the people of the area and see how the state could assist the victims.
